My Suzuski Gsxr 600 Pink Spray paint project

 GSXR 600 PINK PAINT PROJECT

Summary of Steps (no details yet)

Bring: plastic drop cloth, table to put fairings and gas tank on, lots of towels/rags, sandable primer, sand paper 400/800/1200, base coat, clear coat, rag to go inside fuel tank(gas), tweezers (pick out dust), water, spray can holder
1)      Peel off all decals and rhinestones. Remove Gas tank.
a.       Sand and Wipe down as necessary

2)      Apply Aircraft paint remover  (we did about 3-4 coats – bring a book to read while it works on peeling off paint or you could be doing something else to your bike. Watch the fumes. Friend splashed some aircraft remover on my face and I had a scar for two weeks. Be sure not to get that remover on your skin. It literally eats everything!. We poured the aircraft remover in a large mason jar, and painted it on the gas tank with a disposable paint brush.
a.       Let it sit (read directions). Sand (400 or 800 grit)
b.       Sand each time. You can use power sander since it’s metal.

3)      Once all the paint is off, wipe down, sand, wipe down until smooth then apply 3 coats minimum:
4)      Sandable Primer Sealer – (color: white) Autozone $9each x 2cans = $18
a.       Sand (400 grit) in between each coat.
5)      Once smooth and the white looks like it was painted on purpose it’s time to put your base coat (color). I am apply pastel pink (which is why I needed a white primer not black or gray). Little secret – this is $3 pastel  pink spray paint from Walmart (not auto paint) so I need to apply a lot of AUTO clear coat when done and becareful when pumping my gas. If you can find an AUTO base coat then get that one. It was hard to find pink. The one I did custom order ended up being burnt orange so I just picked up the pink at Walmart that says it sticks to metal.. hence metal gas tank.

6)      Apply Base coat (minimum 4 coats)
a.       Sand (800-1200 grit) between each coat. Be sure it is completely dry when you sand and don’t spray paint too thick.

7)      Apply AUTO Glossy Clear coat $10 each x 2cans = $20 autozone. This must be auto spray paint. No exceptions. (Minimum 3 coats – be patient this project literally takes up an entire day 12pm-8pm)
a.       Sand (800-1200 grit) between each coat.
b.       Wet sand (800 grit)
8)      I let mine sit in the garage for a couple days (7 days) before even touching it. You don’t need to wait that long but I wanted it be deep boned dry. Apply a wax/polishing compound (don’t be
cheap, use a buffer $20 walmart and wax about $6 any store. I used Turtle wax of course).
9)      Let it dry, and put bike together.

Congrats! You spray painted your gsxr 600 without fancy equipment.
