My 2017 to do list to my 2011 Suzuki Gsxr 600

Okay, my bike is a 2011 Suzuki Gsx - r 600
I got it in 2014 with only 125 miles on it
It currently has an estimated 11, 200 miles
I got an oil change in August 2015

Sooooo I guess it's clear to say, my bike is due for some serious maintenance. As everyone know, I stickered and bedazzled (rhinestoned) every part of my bike. Seemed like a fun, creative and great idea at the time, until I decided a couple of weeks ago that I want to paint my bike pink and white. Hmmm now those adhesive stickers and rhinestones don't look like fun. Matter of fact it was pain staking to remove. Eventually I got a heat gun which I am so grateful for whoever invented that!!

Just sharing my to do list, since this year, it is all about my Gsxr 600 ....

April 2017

A- Rhinestone/sticker removal from fairings .. Use heat gun (harbor freight on sale $12.99) @DONE


B- PAINT FAIRING BOLT -  New Fairing bolt kit (ebay arrive by 4/13 on sale $19.99)
*Paint pink or metallic gold the bolts (that go in the fairing and stand out) Don't spray paint the thread just the head to protect spray paint, wrap the Allen key with electrical tape before using it

C- NEW HID HEADLIGHT - install new HID headlight (ebay arrive 4/14 on sale ebay $22)
*The install takes about 45 minutes. Hard part is hiding the ballasts and wiring. I put my ballasts on the bottom tray under the lights.All the ballasts fit pretty easily if you use double-sided tape and a few zip ties. h7 goes on top (low beam) and h9 in the bottom (high beam) Bring a power drill that puts hole in plastic (very thick drill head) see youtube video https://youtu.be/kYKoA7i13j0

D- MOUNT CAMERA TO HELMET - order on ebay and connect to helmet ($20)

E- OIL CHANGE - oil wrench, oil pan, funnel, socket wrench & tools in garage. 4qts of oil purchased via walmart $3.97 each. oil filter via ebay $12 @DONE

F- AIR FILTER CHANGE - air filter, screw driver, 10mm socket, socket wrench & tools in garage. Remove seat then remove tank. Prop tank. Take all screws off air filter cover. Avoid dust in pistons. Switch old for new air filter. Replace top and close up. Ebay on sale $12 for filter  @DONE


G- PAINT TANK AND FAIRINGS
Autozone - aircraft paint remover, sandable primer spray can
Home depot - Rustoelum Auto gloss spray can, Sand paper 400,600,800
Dollar tree - tarp/drop cloth, rope,
* remove all adhesive
* remove fairings from bike
* tape all the white (the blue will be colored)
* make sure fuel tank is empty. Remove fuel cap?

STEPS
1.       Peel off all decals and rhinestones
a.       Wipe down
2.       Sand($20)
3.       Primer Sealer – white (Epoxy) Autozone $9each x 2cans = $18
a.       Air compressor (home depot rental $40/day max 90psi)
b.      Spray gun (ebay) $37 for two
4.       Sand (400 grit)
5.       Primer Sealer – white (Epoxy)
6.       Sand (400 grit)
7.       Base coat $60
8.       Clear coat $10 each x 2cans = $20 autozone
9.       Wet sand (600/800 grit)
10.   Clear coat
11.   Polishing compound (wax) $6 autozone


H. Buy new break pads front and rear (purchase on ebay)
  • Change/Get brake fluid
I. Buy two tires. Dont change at same time

J. Buy engine coolant. Flush radiator and fill reservoir tank. Get 4 gallons of distilled water

K. Change spark plugs

L. Radiator hose. Change out by end of season. 
M. Adjust /tighten Clutch - do this before summer (by June)

N. Eventually replace fuel hose

Okay, so clearly i can't be the only one with this issue!!! Well I ended up having two issues smh! But if you google the internet, it seems i'm the only one with a bike after 2007 that is having this issue. So i have been gathering information for days trying to figure out what to do...  How it started...  In April 2017  I repainted my fuel tank and couple fairings, which led me to do some basic maintenance to bike which also led to getting a new battery. The new battery was replaced by a "mega boost" battery in which the terminals were bigger than the leads (see pic below).  Thus, I screwed the leads onto the big terminals and the bike started up and Voila! it works so left it alone. When i put the fuel tank back on one of the fuel line green clips broke off.. f@#$ cheap clips! Thanks Suzuki! smh Anyway, I pushed the fuel line hose onto the fuel tube without the broken clip and figure i deal with it later. Closed up the tank and that was that. Fas...

wtf.. screw fell into motorcycle gas tank

soooo my new painted  suzuki gsxr pink gas tank is painted looking all shiny so i decided i'm going to reattach the gas tank back to the bike so i can run it a little. so i got it on and was adding the metal fuel tank cap / cover. i was literally down to my last screw and bam!!! it popped out of the screw hole and fell down the fuel tank rolling in the little bit of gas i did have left in the tank. i screamed so loud in disbelief even my dog looked at me because he thought something happened. something did happen the f@#$& screw fell in the tank. so i immediately text my biker people to see if i could just leave it in there knowing the partial ocd in me wouldnt let the screw stay there. while i waited for a response, i got my extended magnetic pole thingy. i got a flashlight leaned my head against the tank, took a big whiff unknowingly of premium gas and focused my one eyeball not leaning on the gas tank to find that screw. ah ha! i see it. i stick that magne...

 GSXR 600 PINK PAINT PROJECT Summary of Steps (no details yet) Bring: plastic drop cloth, table to put fairings and gas tank on, lots of towels/rags, sandable primer, sand paper 400/800/1200, base coat, clear coat, rag to go inside fuel tank(gas), tweezers (pick out dust), water, spray can holder 1)       Peel off all decals and rhinestones. Remove Gas tank. a.        Sand and Wipe down as necessary               2)       Apply Aircraft paint remover  (we did about 3-4 coats – bring a book to read while it works on peeling off paint or you could be doing something else to your bike. Watch the fumes. Friend splashed some aircraft remover on my face and I had a scar for two weeks. Be sure not to get that remover on your skin. It literally eats everything!.
